Learn how to remove weeds from your lawn.

Everyone wants their lawn to be as lush and green as possible, and weeds can quickly take over and ruin the appearance of your lawn. It’s important to act fast when you spot weeds in your lawn, as they tend to keep multiplying and become a much larger problem. Continue reading for a few essential tips for removing weeds from your lawn to keep it looking green and healthy!

Create An Environment That Favors Vigorous Growth

Weeds will grow thick and quickly if we don’t do anything to stop them! The best way to prevent weeds is to make your lawn thick and healthy. A thick and healthy lawn crowds out weeds and shades the soil to prevent sunlight from activating weed seeds. Anything that compromises growth such as low-mowed grass, compacted soil, and under or over watered turf encourage weed growth, so you want to avoid these problems to promote a healthy landscape.

A Lawn Full Of Weeds

If weeds are taking over your lawn, it’s crucial to act fast to stop them in their tracks. First, examine your landscape to figure out the type of weeds you’re dealing with since different treatments target specific weeds. Next, choose a treatment that is designed for the kind of weeds and the stage they’re in. For example, if you are targeting weeds before the growing season such as Crabgrass and Japanese Stiltgrass, use a pre-emergent control. For established weeds, use a selective post-emergent control. Third, kill the weeds by following the application directions. Lastly, follow a proper lawn maintenance schedule to keep your lawn weed-free!

Killing Weeds Without Killing Grass

If you take the correct steps, you don’t have to worry about ruining your grass when attempting to kill weeds in your lawn. Pre-emergent and selective post-emergent herbicides are designed especially for weeds, so when applied correctly, they won’t hurt your lawn. You can also get rid of weeds naturally. One natural way of killing weeds is to spray vinegar directly on them to dry out the plant leaves and kill what’s above ground. It’s important to use vinegar that contains more than the standard five percent acetic acid; you should find vinegar with 10 to 20 percent acetic acid at a home improvement store. This method is non-selective and will kill desirable lawn grass as well as weeds. While this may be effective for a few weeds that are spread throughout your lawn, you may be better off hand pulling these weeds. If you have a large number of weeds, it’s better to use a safe and selective herbicide.
